Digital signage is a series of monitors around campus that show slides promoting campus events and accomplishments. The College of Arts and Sciences controls 10 of those monitors, in Langdale, PSC and NSC.
Creating a slide
You can create a slide for the Digital Signage system using PowerPoint, or any other graphic design software you may prefer. Here are the parameters you need to keep in mind:
- The file must be in the .jpeg format.
- The slide must be 1920 pixels in width and 1080 pixels in height.
- No more than 40 words on a slide. according to university policy. Each slide appears for roughly 10 seconds at a time, and 40 words is the maximum number that an average person can read in that time.
- Keep it simple: a good image, the date, time and location of the event, and maybe a URL that people can go to for more information.
Posting a slide
When you’ve created your slide, please send it to Randy Trammell for posting to the digital signage system. Many slides are picked up by other campus entities and run on their monitors as well, so you will most likely get coverage across campus.
Can my department have its own monitor?
Yes, but you will have to pay for it and manage its content yourself. For more information on how to pursue this option, please contact Wade Johnston in IIT.
